"Aharisti" The greek music tradition of the 20th century has a tremendously big number of artists to be proud of. Vasilis Tsitsanis is on top of an endless list. The kind of song he has so authentically represented is called "rebetiko". For those not familiar with greek music it can be considered the greek version of the blues or spanish flamengo. A music based not on theoretic knowledge, a music simple but directed to any heart open to receive it. "Aharisti", meaning "ungrateful" and referring to a woman (of course), is a classic sample of Tsitsanis's work and you can listen to it in one of its old and classic versions by the duett of Poly Panou and Stratos Dionysiou.

"They fell" When Charles Aznavour's parents fled the turkish massacred Armenia in the year 1916, they obviously carried the burden of a lifelong nightmarish remembrance. Charles grew up to be an armenian in eternal exile. But there are facts that remain indelibly curved in a people's historic memory. Charles was obviously born and raised with this memory in his soul. And he managed -in a way- to give life back to the thousands slaughtered; among others by schocking and stirring his thousands of listeners up with a song that can leave noone untouched.
Charles Aznavour - A gifted songwriter and performer, despite his famous ... shortcomings. According to Charles himself these shortcomings were his voice, his height (5 ft 3''), his gestures, his lack of culture and education, his frankness and his lack of personality. His incredibly succesful career proved that among others he also had a sense of humour. "They fell" - click here to get the song... "Soldier of fortune" It is said that hard rock, as it was called back in the 70es, was a rather superficial kind of music, made for brainless teenagers. Deep Purple were leaders on their music field and -despite what has been said- managed to record some really beautiful songs, that can still make us shiver while listening to them, 25 years or more after they were first released... such songs like this one, a slow, really beautiful rock ballad phnetically painted by David Coverdale's voice. Deep Purple, one of the leading hard rock groups in history, in a picture taken in their early years with lead vocalist Ian Gillan and lead guitarist Richie Blackmore... Jon Lord in keyboards was the mastermind of the group, Ian Paice was the drumer and Glenn Hughes the bass player. "Soldier of fortune" - click here to get the song... |
