Costas Kariotakis "Click on the picture for more information about his work and his life" ________________________ A BALLAD TO THE UNWORTHY POETS OF THE CENTURIES Hated by Gods and Men Like fallen Lords, so bitter, All the Verlaines are fading away; what 's left for them Wealth and rhyme, rich and silver; The Hugos with "Punishments" the Olympians' Horrid vengeance sing. But I shall only a sad ballad write To all the poets who unworthy have remained. If all the Poes miserably have lived And if the Baudelaires dead their life have carried, They 've been with Immortality rewarded. But nobody does tell a single story Of those covered by heavy oblivion. The rhymesters who unworth'ly versify. So I an offer do make sacred A ballad to all those unworthy poets. Their burden is being condemned by everybody And they cross their path unbent and pale, Surrendered to their tragic self deception, That there somewhere their Glory is awaiting; A prudent virgin so hilarious, full of joy. But knowing they will be by all forgotten Nostalgic'ly I am mourning this sad kind of A ballad to all those unworthy poets. And some day they' will come those future times: "What poet unworthy", they 'll exclaim "has written this so miserable, poor kind of a ballad to all those unworthy poets?" Poetry in greek by Costas Kariotakis Once more, poorly translated in english by V.N.
